If schools remain open during severe weather or Citywide emergencies, parents should use their discretion when deciding whether to allow their children to attend school. Yellow school bus service may also be delayed or suspended because of severe weather or road conditions. If there are going to be closures or changes to the schedule, the Department of Education will make an announcement as early as possible before 5 AM on the affected day.
